Last week I took on a different art project each day to create Christmas decor for our home. It was a packed week of gold and white paint. I shared the process on my Instagram story throughout the week and I am happy to bring the full reveal to the blog.

My goal with the project was to create art on different substrates than I normally do. To challenge myself to try something new. Christmastime seemed like a perfect opportunity to apply my art to new surfaces while creating items that we could use.

Each of the projects I made are featured in our dining room. For us, this is the center of our home, the heart where we gather and build memories.

Tree trimmings

First up, ornaments for the tree. The ball ornaments turned out great and really capture the look of my art, but they were not easy to paint. Painting circles is much easier than painting on circles. The shipping tags and snowflakes were both simple and quick to create, which was a nice break from the other projects of the week. I am happy with all three and enjoy seeing them on the tree.

The village

These little houses were definitely my favorite project of the week. They were fun to plan, prep, and paint. I am so happy with how they look on the table, they may have to stay up past Christmas.

Fabric fun

The pillows were fun to paint, but they definitely took the most research and surface prep time. I had never painted on fabric before and while it isn’t easy to move paint around like a cradled board, the fabric was a new and interesting challenge. I went with a simple abstract design (hello, my favorite kind of design) and love how they look in the space.
